Golf Course Open
Well its official the Golf Course is now open for play! – We will be holding our first golf day tomorrow following the recent near record floods which devastated the course for the second time in two months.
A very successful working bee was carried out today with tonnes of rubbish being cleared from the course by our fantastic band of volunteers. Apart from the labour there were rakes, chain saws and vehicles to convey the rubbish to a temporary dump – Peter McFadyen even brought in a tractor with a forklift to lift the larger sized logs. It was amazing how the force of the floodwaters carried such large obstacles onto the course.
The Moree Golf Course will be open from tomorrow at 10.00 a.m.
There will be competitions for events for Ladies, Veteran Men’s and Young Guns.
Our Pro Matt McGuire will organise play from temporary premises using manual cards as the Pro shop is not up and running just yet. Again there is much hard work going on to have Matt back into his shop as soon as possible.
Areas of the course are still quite wet so we will play a modified course with both the 2nd & 10th fairways being converted to par 3’s.
Play will be ” tee -up through the green “. Greens are looking exceptionally good considering the amount of silt that was cleaned off them. Carts will be allowed but everyone is requested to use common sense about where they go to minimise damage. If it looks wet don’t go there!
Our Club is in need of our solid support so as many players as possible are encouraged to participate, even if conditions are not as good as we are used to.
If all goes well, we should see a full programme for the weekend of golf this coming weekend.
Floods Again!
Yes it has happened again Moree has been inundated by flood water for the second time in little over two months.
The Moree Golf Course is closed until further notice.
On Friday 3rd February 2012 sometime between 10.00 and 11.00 am the Mehi River which runs between the golf course peaked at 10.69 metres much higher than the November peak of 10.20 metres.
It is considered that the 1955 was one of the biggest floods to hit Moree and at that time the Mehi peaked 10.85 metres.
So it’s on again - the restoration of the greens, tees and fairways – not to mention the Pro shop which received major damage much worse than the November flooding.
Again we have suffered damage to the irrigation system caused by the massive pressure of flood water.
Yesterday John and David Marshall gurneyed the underneath section clearing the silt from the proshop, store rooms and locker room - Thank you so much - I believe that all the silt has been washed off the greens this morning - an enormous thank you to all the volunteers.
